Sunon, Expert in the Modern Office Furniture Industry: One Vision, Endless Possibilities

1

When Sunon established its first modern manufacturing facility in Xiaoshan of Hangzhou, a major manufacturing hub in Zhejiang Province in 2002, few could have predicted how this single step would multiply into a global ecosystem of innovation. Yet this moment perfectly captured what would become Sunon’s defining philosophy: start with excellence in one area, then multiply it across markets, products, and services - a concept the company calls its “1+N” approach.

With over three decades of experience in furniture sector, Sunon has established a comprehensive global infrastructure to serve international partners. The company’s extensive portfolio spans seating, tables, storage solutions, and integrated workstations, delivering reliable and innovative solutions for modern workplace needs.

The year 2002 marked several pivotal moments for Sunon. With just three dedicated team members, the company’s newly established International Business Division began its global journey seeking overseas clients through major platforms like CIFF Guangzhou. Their persistence paid off when they secured a partnership with Japan’s PLUS within six months - a testament to the power of focused ambition. That same year, Sunon launched its first modern manufacturing facility and initiated its first large-scale recruitment of university graduates, laying the foundation for future innovation.

“We’re glad that we took that leap. Economic globalization was just starting to gain momentum, and moving from product internationalization to brand globalization felt like the right step for long-term growth.”

These early steps have multiplied exponentially. Today, Sunon’s products reach 128 countries, serving nearly 200 Fortune Global 500 companies including global giants like Amazon, Coca-Cola, and Toyota. The company’s international infrastructure now spans key regions through strategic subsidiaries in the U.S. and Singapore, complemented by R&D centers in Berlin and Los Angeles. A network of about 300 service centers and over 40 international showrooms ensures comprehensive market coverage across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America.

“What really drives us is creating a smooth experience for our customers at every stage—before, during, and after the sale.”

This global expansion has shaped Sunon’s approach to customer service. Understanding that success in international markets requires more than just product excellence, the company has developed a comprehensive support system. The “Iron Triangle” approach combines dedicated customer management, solutions expertise, and delivery coordination to ensure seamless project execution. At the company’s 80,000-square-meter workspace experience center, clients can explore more than 100 office setups while using cloud-based design tools to visualize their specific space solutions.

This deep market understanding has led to breakthrough innovations like the UX Lounge Chair Series. Born from global insights and customer feedback, this premium product exemplifies Sunon's thoughtful approach to design. Inspired by international business travel, its first-class cabin-style design features a tall backrest for privacy and peripheral distraction control.

The journey of Sunon’s manufacturing capabilities tells a compelling story of strategic expansion. From its first modern manufacturing base established in Xiaoshan in 2002, the company has systematically built a global production network that now spans six strategic locations. Each facility represents not just expanded capacity, but a step forward in manufacturing sophistication and market responsiveness.

“Our North American manufacturing base in Mexico is a major milestone for Sunon, representing our first venture into global manufacturing.”

The Mexico facility marks a particular milestone in this evolution. As Sunon’s first venture into global manufacturing, this state-of-the-art plant showcases how the company’s production philosophy has matured. Advanced automation and digital management systems enable seamless coordination from order placement to delivery, while complete product traceability ensures consistent quality standards. The facility's integration of local supply chains for key materials - from molded foam to laminated panels - demonstrates how localized production can enhance both efficiency and market responsiveness.

This successful model has become a blueprint for future expansion. With plans for new manufacturing bases in North Africa and Southeast Asia, Sunon continues to apply its proven approach of combining global standards with local capabilities. Each new facility benefits from the lessons of previous installations while adapting to serve specific regional needs. Today, this manufacturing network, supported by nearly 100 international offices and 300 service centers across 128 countries, ensures partners worldwide receive reliable, cost-effective solutions with optimized lead times.

At the heart of Sunon’s innovation strategy lies a unique “1+N” R&D model that transforms global insights into groundbreaking solutions. Anchored by the Hangzhou R&D Center, this network extends through partnerships with leading design studios across Germany, Spain, Italy, and the U.S., complemented by research centers in Berlin and Los Angeles. This global-local approach has yielded impressive results: 1,654 patents and 36 design awards from Europe and the U.S., demonstrating how diverse perspectives drive meaningful innovation. As evidenced in breakthrough products like the UP7 Smart Workstation. This revolutionary desk goes beyond basic height adjustment, actively promoting better work habits through millimeter-wave radar sensors that monitor user posture and movement patterns. Through gentle reminders via visual cues and subtle vibrations, it transforms a simple piece of furniture into an intelligent health companion.

Similarly, the H5 Ergonomic Chair exemplifies Sunon’s holistic approach to innovation. Its construction from recycled fishing nets and airbags demonstrates how performance and environmental responsibility can coexist. At just 12kg and featuring a foldable backrest, it's engineered to minimize both material use and transportation emissions.

“When it comes to design, we focus on ‘green innovation’. This includes using eco-friendly materials like felt and ocean-recycled plastics, as well as modular designs that extend a product’s usability.”

This commitment to sustainable innovation shapes every aspect of product development. Sunon’s three-pillar approach–reducing production emissions, implementing eco-friendly infrastructure, and creating low-carbon products - guides development from concept to execution. The company employs photovoltaic power generation and heat recovery systems in manufacturing, while using water-based UV coatings and low-VOC adhesives in production. Through the JOS Sunon Home initiative, a partnership with Singapore-based JOS, the company has established a circular economy program that gives office furniture a second life through donations and charity sales.

“At the upcoming CIFF Guangzhou, we are excited to show our furniture designs, which seamlessly combines environmental consciousness with cutting-edge design. Through our exhibit, we aim to convey Sunon’s philosophy of ‘Enjoy Workplace with Nature’, our perspective on the future of workspaces, and our commitment to advancing ESG initiatives.”
